Flat Rack Container,or FR, of 20’and 40’ is a type of OOG container playing an important role in the segment of OOG container transportation. It features a shape without top and side walls or even end walls in some cases, leaving only the floor and four corner posts.
1、Specifications
The FR normally has two sizes of 20’and 40’.
20’: Baseboard height is 2.2m; the thicker the baseboard, the more space it would take and also the less capacity it contained. Load capacity is 31 tons and the actual deadweight is 27.7 tons
40’: Baseboard height of 1.95m, load capacity of 40ton and the actual deadweight of 30ton.
Note: The above specifications of 20' and 40’FRs are only for reference because different shipping companies might apply varied width and height standard, but usually with almost the same critical state of the above specification. Meanwhile, the theoretical capacity might be different from the real situation. Whether a cargo could be transported is determined by not only the condition of banding and fastening, the arrangement of trailers, but the operation practice of each port, the freight line and the capability of port equipment including the crane, gear reducer, clutch, brake, rope tube and steel wire rope.
2、Targeted Cargos :
FR normally targets for machine and equipment of extra size as well as over-weighted large cargos such as heavy machine, steel and timber.
The 20’and 40’FRs allow loading operation from front, back, two sides and
top. It is not suitable for cargos requiring water-proof condition, and canvas
would be used to cover and seal the cargo if the FR is necessary.
3. Freight cost :
There is no fixed equation for FR freight because it would varied based on
the real situation of ports and terminals, the availability of space during hot/low
season. Meanwhile, as the supply is limited, the calculation should also
consider the supply of empty container. Besides, the FR would take extra space
and the cost might be shifted in a large range based on seasons. So an
adjustable offer is advisable.
4. Attention
a. Bind/support/fix the FR correctly and keep balance of the objects to
guarantee smooth transportation in trailers.
b. Take water-proof and damp-proof measures according to the requirement
of cargos. Use strong packing materials to avoid package from being broken
during transportation.
c. Fix the main body of the cargo by steel cable on the container.
d. Reinforce the front and back sides of cargos by applying appropriate
cables and chocking to avoid the back and forth movement.
e. Bulk goods should be packed properly, ideally with boxes. Nude packing
would be rejected.
f. Pad would be required between steel cable and wooden boxes when
fastening the cargo.
